Family Street Appeal

Faced with a child’s illness life stops overnight and parents enter a world of fear and worry.
For parents who don’t live close to the medical care their child needs, there’s an added stress. Distance. Most families have to travel hours for treatment. Living expenses quickly add up. Long drives, lost jobs, worried siblings, sleeping in cars. Being far from family and friends. These are extra burdens no family should have to experience.

Our Family Street Appeal is one of the most important fundraising days of the year

Every year, the need for our House in Christchurch and Family Room in Southland Hospital is increasing. Last year alone, more than 1280 families used our facilities, and thanks to funds raised through events like the Annual Family Street Appeal, we were able to save these families more than a million dollars in accommodation expenses.

There are many ways to give to our Annual Family Appeal.

Volunteer: You could give the gift of time and volunteer for a few hours at one of our street collection sites across Canterbury, Southland and the West Coast. If this sounds like you, please fill in our registration form here and we will be in touch.

Hold a Fundraising Event: If you are a school or education centre, we would love it if you held a mufti day or equivalent event to raise funds to support families like those in your community. By registering your event here, we will send you out posters, social media tiles, email headers and other collateral for you to use in your school newsletters, noticeboard and in your community.

If you would like someone to come and speak at your school or education centre, please contact Regan De Burgh at regan@rmhsi.org.nz to arrange a time.

Donate: If you would like to donate to Ronald McDonald House South Island, or the Ronald McDonald Family Room, Southland Hospital, see our donations page here

Your support can help even more families stay close through the biggest challenge of their lives. Together, we can do big things.
