A Day at the Polo 2017

Award-winning success

We are thrilled to announce ‘A Day at the Polo’ 2017 has won a Fundraising Institute of New Zealand of New Zealand (FINZ) award.

Our CEO Mandy Kennedy accepted the Everyday Hero 2018 Merit Award for Excellence in Fundraising Events on behalf of our team at the FINZ Conference in Wellington earlier this month.

Led by Events and Partnership Manager Robyn Medlicott, 2017 was the most successful ‘A Day at the Polo’ event held to date, raising over $100,000 for our organisation.

Set under a garden marquee in picturesque Tai Tapu, Ronald McDonald House South Island together with the Port Hills Polo Club welcomed more than 400 guests to the annual ‘A Day at the Polo’ on Saturday, December, 9, 2017.

But last year was different – event organisers secured the Australia and New Zealand polo teams to play on the day, adding international prestige to the overall feel of the day.

Supporters purchased tables of 10 guests to attend the event, which included a sit-down luncheon, complimentary glass of wine, and the opportunity to indulge in a cocktail or two on the lawn and partake in the traditional stomping of the divots.

FINZ Award judges were impressed with A Day at the Polo, saying:

“This event was well executed, building on feedback from previous events that allowed the event to grow in both numbers of participants and financial performance.”

Our sincere gratitude must go to the Port Hills Polo Club, our event sponsors, auction donors, table buyers and guests for making ‘A Day at the Polo’ such a standout success.

A Day at the Polo 2018 will take place on Saturday, December 8, and we are again delighted to confirm an international polo match between New Zealand and Australia will take place. To find out more about this event, click here.
