A Fresh New Look

The Ronald McDonald Family Room, Southland Hospital receives a makeover

The Ronald McDonald Family Room, Southland Hospital had a mini makeover completed in May. The four ensuite bedrooms were transformed with new LED lighting, carpet, paint, soft furnishings, smart TVs and bathroom maintenance.

Family Room Supervisor Helen Walker believes the results provide families with an even more comfortable experience during their time-out from the hospital environment.

“The bedrooms are the most important space here for the families so the refresh was designed with the families in mind. These rooms provide a private, comfortable, cosy and restful haven,” she said.

Also completed as part of the refurbishment was a refresh of the lounge and laundry spaces, including window treatments and paintwork.

The first guests to stay in the new rooms were all full of praise for the new look. With one Invercargill mum saying, “we have stayed in the Family Room twice this year, both before and after the renovations. The new refurbishment is amazing. I love the colour scheme and soft new carpet. These changes have made it a really peaceful and comforting place to stay during a difficult time for us.”

Key to the success of this project was LH Design, Donaldson Construction Services, H G. Morsink Ltd Painting Contractor, All-Lay Carpets, Aotea Electric and Daryl Burgess Masonry.

We also extend many thanks to Southland Masonic Charitable Trust and Wattyl Paints for their in-kind donations towards the project, an anonymous donor for their contribution and The Trusts Community Foundation.
