Anastasia Frater, Family Room Supervisor
Anastasia joined Ronald McDonald House as a volunteer in 2019 as part of her community placement for her degree.
Once her time under University of Canterbury had finished, Anastasia asked to volunteer in her own time and helped the Overnight Supervisor with the Family Dinner Programme.
Anastasia is now a Family Room Supervisor at the Family Room, Christchurch Hospital, where she greets families and makes them feel welcome.
“I hope to make the families feel welcome and a bit more refreshed than when they walked in. I hope they would know they have somewhere to go to breath and be guaranteed to experience a little act of kindness, be it verbal or nonverbal. I hope to make them feel welcome and be a familiar face who can contribute in a small way behind the scenes to something that was making a big difference.
I come from a big, close-knit family and I always try to act how I would want a person to treat my parents and siblings when they’ve been in hospital.”
