Repaying kindess

Inspires sponsorship

Repaying the kindness her family received in our Christchurch House inspired Cherri Carol to sponsor the very room which became a ‘home away from home’ for her grandchildren.

When Cherri’s six-year-old grandson Isaac was diagnosed with acute myloid leukaemia in October 2016, his family spent 125 nights in Room 1 at our Christchurch House.

“Ronald McDonald House became their ‘home away from home’ while they went through perhaps the hardest experience of their lives,” says Cherri.

“The House was not only their home, but also their community, their refuge and a major part of their support network while they were so far from home.”

Cherri and her gorgeous grandchildren, including Harry who inspired her Room Sponsorship.

Cherri says the staff were amazing.

“There was always a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on when we needed one. I am grateful they included me within the circle of support for the family.”

It was this support which inspired Cherri to sponsor Room 1, which is now named ‘The Isaac Harry Room’ in honour of her incredibly brave grandson.

“I have an opportunity to try to repay in a small way the priceless support they provided us at a time when it was most needed.”

Cherri says Isaac is now in full remission, enjoying life and training so he can one day play Aussie Rules.

“It’s all so normal but for us, it is so completely wonderful to see.”
