Communications Advisor (fixed-term, parental leave cover)

We seek a full-time, Communications Advisor for an up-to-8 months fixed term period (parental leave cover) to work within our talented Christchurch-based team.
Our place is a special one – Ronald McDonald House South Island provides families with accommodation and support while their child receives hospital care, all free of charge. Last year, we provided free accommodation and support for over 1,280 families in Christchurch and Invercargill, and because we receive no direct government funding our team works tirelessly to raise support in the community to keep our doors open for those who really need it.
We’re looking for someone with proven Communications experience, accompanied by impeccable communications skills. You will be responsible for all internal and external communications that Ronald McDonald House South Island produces, working in a tight-knit fundraising team of high performers. You have a big heart, empathy and a desire to make a difference in the lives of families. You’ll be comfortable relating to many different groups of people and public speaking. Your integrity, initiative and experience with people will be the foundations you bring to our team, and your willingness to learn new things will set you apart. You will need to be well organised and engaging with an excellent work ethic. A background in journalism and/or marketing is desirable .
This full-time, fixed term role will be providing cover for one of our team who is going on parental leave from August 2020 through to April 2021. Because this is a parental leave cover the role may be extended or discontinued with notice.
Some evening and weekend work will be required, as well as some travel to our team in Southland. A full driver’s licence is essential. You will also be responsible for managing a small team of volunteers and so some experience with managing people is important.
